A strong 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Indonesia on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake hit the Molucca Sea between North Sulawesi and North Maluku provinces at a depth of about 48 kilometers, with the epicenter located roughly 116 kilometers east of Bitung.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency also recorded the quake at a preliminary magnitude of 5.8.
No immediate reports of casualties or major damage were issued following the earthquake.
