The 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) opened today receiving the submissions for the 9th Cairo Film Connection (CFC) program and until August 20, the CIFF announced in an official statement released on Tuesday.
It also announced Lynda Belkhiria as the director of the 9th CFC.
Hussein Fahmy, the President of CIFF, showed his delight to receive new film projects to participate within the Cairo Film Connection, which supported several upcoming filmmaking talents and helped them to be recognized regionally, and internationally.
In the same context, Amir Ramses, the Festival Director, expressed that Belkhiria was selected for her extensive expertise as a programmer in several festivals, including the Carthage Film Festival (JCC).
"This new collaboration will be an added value to the 9th edition of the Cairo Film Connection," he added.
Belkhiria is a professional festival programmer and was Head of the industry platform Pro Carthage Film Festival.
She has also worked as the Industry Event Coordinator at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival in 2011, and has been actively contributing to the Carthage Film Festival (JCC) since 2016.
CFC is held as part of Cairo Industry Days which brings industry professionals from all around the world to be engaged in a programme of masterclasses, panel discussions, and events designed to inspire, highlight and support filmmaking talent from the region.
The submissions should be directed by an Arabic (in national or in origin) filmmaker, the length of it should be a feature length, and it should be in the phase of production or development.
In addition, the director of the film must have directed at least one film regardless of its length.
