Lucy Liu to Play Villain in ‘Shazam!’ Sequel

American actress Lucy Liu has joined the cast of DC comics adaptation “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” as Kalypso, the sister of Helen Mirren’s villainous character Hespera.

The sequel sees practically the entire team behind 2019’s “Shazam!” reprising their roles, including stars Asher Angel and Zachary Levi.

“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is written by Henry Gayden and directed by David F. Sandberg.

Mirren’s role is somewhat mysterious as Hespera does not have a clear equivalent from the DC comics. Mirren is no stranger to action-packed franchises. She played an assassin in 2010’s “RED” and 2013’s “RED 2.”

“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is set to debut in June 2023.

Liu last appeared in the 2020 Canadian comedy-drama film "Stage Mother".
