A massive wildfire in Los Angeles spread rapidly over the weekend, threatening some of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods, including the area where Vice President Kamala Harris owns a $5 million home.
The blaze, part of the larger Palisades Fire, shifted direction on Friday night, advancing toward Brentwood, a neighborhood known for its affluent residents and high-profile celebrities.
Brentwood is home to notable figures, including former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, actress Reese Witherspoon, and Oscar-winner Meryl Streep.
Emergency services worked through the night to contain the blaze and issued evacuation orders for the area as the fire came dangerously close to residential properties.
Wildfires across the Los Angeles region have wreaked havoc, destroying entire neighborhoods and forcing tens of thousands of residents to flee their homes. Officials reported at least 16 fatalities and over 12,000 buildings reduced to ashes.
The Palisades Fire remains the largest active wildfire in the area, with new evacuation orders issued for residents in Encino and Brentwood.
Another major blaze, the Eaton Fire in northern Los Angeles County, has claimed 11 lives, scorched over 22 square miles, and left behind a trail of destruction.
