This morning, the Libyan National Army launched a series of airstrikes on Al-Wattia base in the west of the country, which is controlled by the Tripoli militias, that resulted in destroying a Turkish air defense system.
Local Libyan media reported that several explosions were heard at Al-Wattia base.
The reports pointed out that the air strikes targeted a place called Al-Nadab, a special place of the base commander.
Libyan military sources had confirmed to Al-Ain News several days ago that there were some movements by Turkish soldiers and militias at the Al-Wattia base which were spotted, especially, a military convoy consisting of more than 20 military vehicles, including covered trucks, accompanied by Turkish soldiers, and they were monitored in the Janzour area of Tripoli.
Later on, they were spotted near the coastal road in the city of Sabratha, heading towards the base of Al-Wattia.
The Turkish military provocations come at a time when international efforts to solve the Libyan crisis continue by stressing the need to return to political consultations for a solution.
Defiant to the international will, the Turkish Minister of Defense, recently, visited Tripoli, in which he talked about "Turkish sovereignty, return after the ancestral withdrawal, and stay forever."
