Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, a spokesman for the Libyan National Army, announced the clearing of the western regions of Libya from militias and Syrian mercenaries affiliated with the Government of the National Accord, known widely as the GNA.
In a statement, the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) published on its official page on Facebook, today, Friday, that “We announce to you that the valiant Libyan National Army forces have managed, thank God, to purify the areas of Al-Asa, Al-Jameel and Zalatun, from the control of the GNA militias and its Syrian mercenaries.”
“These regions enjoy freedom, security and safety now after the expulsion of terrorist and criminal militias from them, and this field progress comes after the failure of the attack launched by the militias of the so-called GNA and foreign terrorist mercenaries, on the Uqba Bin Nafeh air base, in the Al-Wattiya area in the west of the country, and we thank the people of the region who contributed to this victory,” he added.
In the meantime, the LNA forces, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Hafter, announced for the first time the close control of the land port of Ra's Ajdir located on the common border with Tunisia and controlled by the GNA forces, headed by Fayez al-Sarraj.
Earlier, the "166th Infantry Battalion”, affiliated with the LNA, spoke about the movement of some of its units to the "known place to carry out the tasks entrusted to them by the Commander in Chief", after it said that it had "received training at the highest level to raise its efficiency.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations Mission to Libya called in a statement, yesterday evening, to "an immediate cessation of the military escalation between the two parties, including the cessation of hostilities, the mobilization of forces, and the flow of arms and foreign fighters to Libya.”
