The Libyan National Army (LNA) was able to take full control of the Al-Maghawir Camp in Awbari‎, in the south of the country, after weeks of clashes with armed militias.

According to Aqila Al-Saber, a member of the Military Media Division, the LNA forces managed to expel the Government of National Accord (GNA) appointed Ali Kanna, a Tuareg militia leader from the camp.

The LNA arrested 3 terrorists involved in kidnapping and extortion crimes against citizens in the South.

It is noteworthy that the Al-Maghawir military camp is of strategic importance to GNA-affiliated militias as it can be used as an outpost to wage attacks on the oil fields of southern Libya.

Libya has been marred in violence between competing forces, militias, and extremists since the toppling and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The conflict now pits the Tripoli-based GNA against the LNA, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, for control of the country.
