The Swiss football association announced on Tuesday that Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for coronavirus.
The Reds No.23 contracted the respiratory disease after he has been called up for international duty on Monday ahead of Switzerland’s upcoming games with Croatia, Spain and Germany.
“Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for Covid-19. In consultation with the health authorities, he is in isolation,” football's governing body in Swiss said in a statement.
The 28-year-old, is the third Liverpool player to test positive for Coronavirus after Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane.
Earlier this month, Jurgen Klopp Liverpool head coach expressed his concern about sending his players to international teams during the coronavirus pandemic.
"I don't want to sound disrespectful about how other countries are doing it but this is the place that we know and we know how we are dealing with it," said Klopp. "So I am slightly concerned because it is difficult to be in contact with all FAs (football associations) all over the world," he added.
"I understand it, I really understand how difficult the situation is but it's not exactly perfect, the information we get from certain FAs," the German coach concluded.
