Jesse Lingard isn't expected to be on his way out of Manchester United when the transfer window opens in January.

The Englishman has been limited to just eight substitute appearances in the Premier League since returning from his successful loan spell at West Ham United at the end of last season; he has started just two games for United this term - in the Carabao Cup and the Champions League.

Lingard's future

A return to West Ham has been touted, as has a move further north to Newcastle United, but the Athletic are reporting that the Magpies have no plans to sign the player.

Instead, the same outlet have said that Lingard is keen on staying at Old Trafford until the end of the season, hoping to force his way into new coach Ralf Rangnick's plans.

Lingard's current contract at United expires this coming summer.
