Suez Canal Chairman Discusses with Greek Ambassador Enhancing Joint Cooperation

Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority received Νikolaos Papageorgiou, the Greek Ambassador to Cairo to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination, at the Authority’s headquarters in Ismailia Governorate.

This is the first official visit of the ambassador to the Suez Canal Authority since he assumed his duties in Cairo.

Rabie stressed the Authority’s keenness to invest in the Egyptian-Greek rapprochement by opening new areas of cooperation and creating more opportunities for success and integration through the exchange of experiences and the transfer of technology.

He explained that the Suez Canal seeks to provide distinguished navigational and maritime services and develop new services to meet the requirements of its customers, in addition to the continuous development of the canal’s navigational route, which aims to increase the rate of navigational safety by about 28%. 

The Chairman of the Authority reviewed the latest developments in the partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and the Greek company Antipollution to provide the service of collecting solid and liquid waste from ships crossing the canal.

On his part, Papageorgiou stressed the pivotal role of the Suez Canal as a vital route for the global trade movement, praising the efforts made by the authority to ensure regular navigation in the canal. 

He also wished for stability in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab region to ensure the right to safe navigation and the sustainability of global supply chains. 

At the conclusion of the meeting, Rabie, Chairman of the Authority, presented the new canal shield to Nicholas Papageorgiou, the Greek ambassador in Cairo, and then invited him to take a sea tour of the new Suez Canal.
