Libya's Haftar & Al-Mnifi Meets in Cairo

On Monday, The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, met in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

According to local media reports, quoting sources from the Presidential Council, the meeting addressed ways to strengthen the calm on the ground between the Libyan parties according to the ongoing ceasefire.

This is the second official meeting between Memphis and Haftar after that of 11 February 2021 at the Al-Fadil hotel in the eastern capital, during which the General Command had expressed the support of the armed forces for the peace process and the effort of the army to preserve democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.

Today's meeting follows the one, also in Cairo, between the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aqila Saleh, and the head of the High Council of State (HCS), Khaled Al-Mashri , which concluded with a joint statement on a consensus on the constitutional roadmap that would restore dialogue between the two chambers seeking consensus on the legal basis for holding parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya .

It should be remembered that the preparatory meetings of the National Reconciliation Conference began yesterday, Sunday, in the presence of Al-Menfi and the representatives of the African Union with the participation of some ambassadors accredited in Libya, members of the HoR and of the HCS , sheikhs and notables from various regions of Libya.

The Presidency Council is engaged in the National Reconciliation dossier and has expressed to all political bodies in Libya to undertake concrete actions in support of a global peace among Libyans, underlining that the completion of this project in addition to the constitutional basis are fundamental pillars for realize the aspirations of the Libyan people to choose their own representatives through elections.
