President of Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, called on Wednesday for political, media, and social forces to exercise restraint in public discourse and reject incitement.

He stated that the assassination of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi was aimed at undermining national reconciliation efforts and obstructing free and fair elections.

In an official statement, Al-Menfi urged the public to await the results of the official investigation into the assassination of the Libyan presidential candidate.

He confirmed his close monitoring of the Prosecutor General’s statement regarding the incident and the comprehensive preliminary investigation launched to uncover the circumstances and motives behind the killing.

Al-Menfi emphasized his commitment to ensuring that there is no impunity, expressing his understanding of public concerns.

He also welcomed the use of technical support and expertise within legal frameworks to enhance the transparency and speed of the investigation, thereby bolstering public confidence.

The President extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and the Qadhadhfa tribe.

Moreover, he concluded his statement by asserting that "Libya cannot be governed by violence, nor built on fear or extrajudicial killings," adding that "Libyan blood is sacred and must not be tampered with."

The Libyan Attorney General's Office clarified in a statement early Wednesday that an autopsy confirmed Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi was killed by gunshot wounds.
