A host of Libyan politicians belonging to sovereign institutions met in Sirte, a coastal city situated in the eastern part of the country, to discuss Libya’s main issues.

That meeting was attended by Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh and the designated Libyan Prime Minister, Fathi Bashagha, to discuss the policy of the designated government and the draft general budget for 2022.

The participants in Sirte’s meeting also discussed preparations for presidential and parliamentary elections based on constitutional consensus.

Aqila Saleh said, during the meeting, that the two sides are working on drafting a new constitution, which will be presented to the people for a referendum.

Saleh affirmed that the Central Bank of Libya may not disburse funds without approving the budget through the legislative body. He affirmed that state revenues must be distributed transparently and fairly to state institutions.

He asked the Libyan General, Adviser Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, to file a lawsuit against those who infringe on the capabilities of the Libyan people.

On his part, Bashagha affirmed that his government’s efforts are focused on preserving the entity of the state and the unity of its institutions, ending manifestations of chaos and corruption, and creating the necessary climate for holding parliamentary and presidential elections on constitutional grounds.

Bashagha added that the government believes in teamwork and national participation and that it is ready to cooperate with all regulatory authorities and financial institutions to serve the public interest and consolidate the rule of law and institutions.
