On Wednesday, the Libya's Eastern-based Parliament announced that it had dropped the membership of 35 dissident MPs and referred them to the Attorney General.
In a statement, the Presidency of the House of Representatives said that the 35 MPs will be subject to investigation on charges of calling for the pision of the country and spreading discord, chaos and strife.
Libya has two pided parliaments; the eastern-based Parliament in Tobrouk which is supported by the Leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and the western-based one in Tripoli under the control of the Government of National Accord (GNA).
In November, the two parties to the conflict in Libya agreed to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2021, in a move to unify the legislative and executive institutions in the war-torn country. Meanwhile, 120 MPs from Tripoli and Tobruk parliaments held an official consultative session in Morocco agreed to designate Benghazi as the constitutional and legal headquarters of a unified parliament.
