The Libyan Military Joint Commission (5+5) warns of relapsing to war again due to continuing vacancy of the post of defense minister.

The commission indicated that a vacuum at the head of the Ministry of Defense in Libya may lead to violate the fragile ceasefire and renew the war in various parts of the country.

The commission has announced that it doesn't take responsibility for the vacant post of defense minister and what results from that regarding the dangers of the current situation.

The commission had recently sent letters to the Speaker on the Libyan House of Representatives,  Head of the  Presidential Council, and the Head of the National Unity Government.

It stressed that it addressed them many times to fill the post urgently.

The commission repeated its requests by issuing statements after its meetings but these appeals found a deaf ear.

On the other hand, the military commission recommends the Head of the Presidential Council  Muhammad al-Manfi, and the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, to return the affiliation of more than eight security and military agencies to the General Staff and the Ministry of Interior.

The targets of the commission’s recommendation are supporting  Stabilization Support Agency, the Public Security Agency, the Counter-Terrorism Force, the Greater Tripoli Operations Center, the Special Deterrence Force, the Misurata Joint Force, the military regions (Central - Western - Tripoli), operations rooms in general, and any other party.

Last Saturday, the Joint Military Commission "5 + 5" concluded the 12th round of its meetings will be held in the city of Sirte, in the eastern part of the country.

And  it announced the start of the work of the "local observers" team for a ceasefire, starting from Sunday "August 15, 2021, as agreed in the ceasefire agreement."

The Commission stressed the importance of firing and expulsing mercenaries, foreign fighters, and foreign forces according to the treaty signed on October 23, 2020.
