The Spanish government hailed Friday Morocco's initiative to support and strengthen dialogue between the various Libyan parties in order to reach a political solution to the conflict in this country.
A source from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that "Spain commends the initiatives aimed at supporting and strengthening dialogue between Libyans, such as the Moroccan initiative, as it contributes to the United Nations efforts to reach a political solution" to this conflict.
"With regard to the Spanish government, the solution to the conflict must be political, and that determining and reaching this solution exclusively concerns Libyans alone" within the framework sponsored by the United Nations."
The source added that the solution to the conflict "is fundamental and pivotal for the stability of the Mediterranean region and the Sahel."
In the meantime, France highlighted, today, Friday, the "important contribution" of Morocco to the steps taken by the United Nations to resume the political dialogue.
A spokeswoman for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Morocco's commitment is an important contribution to the steps taken by the United Nations aimed at resuming the Libyan political dialogue."
A statement quoted the spokeswoman as saying, "France welcomes the continuation of the Kingdom of Morocco's efforts to restart the political process in Libya, through efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in Bouznika."
"There is no military solution to the Libyan conflict: the solution will be political and passes through the commitment of the neighboring countries of Libya," she added, noting that "these countries are the first concerned with the risks that the Libyan crisis poses to regional security and stability."
