Turkish warplanes were seen flying at low altitude over the Sirte and Jufra regions in Libya on Wednesday after the Libyan National Army (LNA) had seized a Turkish cargo ship.
In this regard, Italian media reports pointed out "the escalation of tension between Turkey and the Libyan army."
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened a severe retaliation after the LNA took control of a Turkish-owned cargo ship, according to the Italian reports.
On its part, the LNA had announced that it had seized a merchant ship and subjected it to investigation and inspection after it entered the country's territorial waters and violated maritime regulations, regulations and laws.
The spokesman for the LNA, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, explained in a statement published on Monday evening that a commercial cargo ship flying the Jamaican flag, called "Mabrouka", had been stopped for entering the Libyan territorial waters off the coast of Ras Al Hilal in Jabal Al Akhdar, noting that it was heading towards the port of Misurata in Western the country.
On Sunday, the LNA mobilized its forces, announcing the highest levels of preparedness, in preparation to repel any hostile movements, after monitoring Turkish warships near the territorial waters.
