Moments ago, Libyan army handed over a most wanted terrorist to Egyptian authorities. The terrorist is blamed for several offensive operations against Egyptian security forces.

Hisham Ashmawy, known as planner of many deadly attacks including a 2013 attempted assassination on the interior minister, was captured by Libyan army last October.

Photos of Ashmawy, a former army officer, boarding a military aircraft heading to Egypt along with commandos, were widely shared minutes ago.

The handover, which was broadcast on TV channels, followed a meeting between Chief of Egyptian Intelligence General Abbas Kamel and Head of Libyan National Army General Khalifa Haftar during a visit of the former to the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.

Both sides affirmed persistence to enhancing mutual security cooperation.

Ashmawy was on the same plane carrying Kamel back to Egypt.
