A fully equipped force from the Libyan General Department of Central Support were sent to the Msaaed border crossing with Egypt on Wednesday. The security forces will support the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency in performing its tasks entrusted to it.

According to a statement by the Libyan Interior Ministry, the new force will help to enhance the apparent security within the jurisdiction of the Msaaed Security Directorate.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the Libyan Ministry of the Interior said that this comes in implementation of the order issued by the Minister of Interior, Ibrahim Bouchnaf. The security force is headed by the Director of the General Department of Central Support Salah Al-Khafifi.

The ministry stated that the force began its duties throughout at the security station gate of Al Jurfan, the road to the Msaaed border crossing, and the areas of Al-Batnan.

Libya has been in chaos ever since the 2011 overthrow and killing of dictator Moamer Kadhafi in a NATO-backed uprising, with warring rival administrations battling for power. Since the downfall of Kadhafi, Libya also has become a key route for irregular migration from Africa into Europe, across the Mediterranean Sea.
