In a high-level diplomatic meeting focused on regional security and governance, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), met with Ibrahim Kalin, Head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT), in Tripoli this Friday.
The discussions centered on bolstering bilateral cooperation and aligning efforts to support a sustainable political path for Libya. Both leaders emphasized the importance of coordinated international action to push forward the Libyan political process, aiming to achieve national consensus and preserve the country’s unity.
Advancing the Political Roadmap
A key priority of the meeting was creating the necessary conditions to finalize Libya’s national mandates, including the transition toward national elections. Prime Minister Dbeibeh and Mr. Kalin explored various viewpoints on shared regional challenges, reaffirming their commitment to continuous consultation to protect mutual interests and foster stability across the broader Mediterranean region.
A Deepening Strategic Partnership
Turkey has remained a consistent supporter of the UN-backed political process in Libya, advocating for the unification of state institutions and the holding of transparent national elections. This latest meeting occurs amidst a flurry of regional and international diplomatic activity aimed at breaking the current institutional deadlock and addressing the delay in electoral milestones.
Over recent years, the Libya-Turkey relationship has evolved into a robust partnership spanning political, security, and economic sectors. Today's talks signal a continued intent to deepen these ties as Libya navigates its complex path toward long-term peace and democratic governance.
