Libya: 5+5 Committee Agreed to Ceasefire

Today, the UN Support Envoy in Libya Stephanie Williams revealed that the  Committee (5 + 5) reached an agreement to a cease-fire.

Williams also added that a committee has been formed to oversee the exit of foreign forces from the country.

Williams said in a press conference after Ghadames talks, "There has been agreement and a spirit of responsibility on the terms of implementing the ceasefire in Libya."

This was the first round of negotiations between the two conflicting parties in Libya, since they had four meetings had outside the country.

The last of them was in Geneva, during which the 5 + 5 committee signed an agreement for a permanent ceasefire in Libya.

Williams explained that there are "12 items for the implementation of the ceasefire, the most prominent of which is the formation of a military sub-committee to oversee the return of all foreign forces.

Moreover, the departure and withdrawal of all the forces of the two sides to their camps as per the agreement signed in Geneva at the end of last month.

The two parties also agreed to establish joint military engineering teams to remove minefields in cooperation with UN experts.

Furthermore, the conflicting sides agreed to the immediate resumption of flights to the cities of Ghadames and Sabha, in addition to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

The UN envoy declared that "The agreement specified the time for these mercenaries to leave, and now the responsibility lies on the countries involved to bring them in."

She praised the two military delegations that participated in these negotiations, saying, "The military delegations showed determination to accomplish all of this, and we will go to Tunisia to discuss a roadmap with the politicians."
