Lebanese former Prime Minister Saad Hariri warned Thursday of a civil war, as his country is plunging into its worst financial crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.
In an interview with “MTV” Lebanese channel, Hariri said: “carrying weapons and the military parades at streets are leading to the collapse of the state.”
Hariri confirmed his readiness to take over the post of prime minister, if there is an agreement in Lebanon regarding obtaining a deal with the International Monetary Fund.
“I will meet with all political sides to find out their stance and approval on the French initiative, and if all sides agree, I will not close the door” to becoming prime minister, Hariri said.
He noted: "Certainly, I am a candidate," adding, "Saad Hariri will not close the door to the only hope that Lebanon has to stop this collapse."
