Lebanon's Minister of Environment and head of the National Emergency Committee, Nasser Yassin, announced that the country needs $250 million each month to provide essential services for over a million displaced people affected by ongoing Israeli attacks.

Yassin stated that government efforts, bolstered by local initiatives and international aid, have only covered 20% of the needs for approximately 1.3 million displaced individuals. Many of these people are currently sheltering in public buildings or staying with relatives.

The humanitarian crisis is expected to worsen as daily airstrikes continue, forcing more residents to flee their homes.

Yassin emphasized the urgent need for additional funds, highlighting that the $250 million monthly is necessary to ensure access to basic services like food, water, sanitation, and education for the displaced population.

Over the past few days, public schools, an old slaughterhouse, a fresh food market, and an empty housing complex have been converted into temporary shelters.

Yassin, along with a crisis team consisting of representatives from other Lebanese ministries, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Lebanese Red Cross, is coordinating relief efforts.

The team is operating on a four- to six-month timeline for emergency aid but remains hopeful that the conflict will end sooner.

He called for an immediate ceasefire, urging the international community to act decisively.

The damage inflicted on Lebanon due to the Israeli attacks is estimated to be in the billions of dollars. Entire villages along the border have been destroyed in recent days, along with public institutions, water facilities, pumping stations, and hospitals, all of which will require rebuilding.

The Lebanese authorities have not yet provided a comprehensive estimate of the reconstruction costs needed to restore the country’s infrastructure.
