Lebanon Akkar's Explosion Death Toll Rises to 22

Death toll of Akkar's explosion rose to 22 persons and 97 injured according to the Lebanese health authorities today, Sunday.

Therefore, Caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hassan said that serious cases of burns need to be quickly transported abroad to save their lives.

Hamad told Reuters: "We need urgent help to evacuate some of the injured abroad..there are cases (of burns) that are more than the ability of Lebanese hospitals to handle."

The local Lebanese MTV news channel reported early Sunday, quoting the Red Cross, that at least 20 people were killed in a fuel tank explosion in Akkar, northern Lebanon.

Activists on social media circulated scenes of the explosion and a number of burnt bodies, as well as video clips showing the transfer of a large number of wounded to hospitals in the area.

The website lebanon 24 reported that the explosion resulted in the injury of about 50 people, noting that some of the injuries were severe and others were minor, adding that 7 people were pulled out from under the rubble.

Both Ma’an Youssef Hospital and Rahal Hospital in Akkar called on citizens to donate blood from all groups.
