Lebanese Police: Crime Rates Declined in First Third of 2023, Cops Arrested 4,218 Suspects

The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces in Lebanon (Lebanese Police) announced today, Tuesday, a decline in crime rates during the first third of this year compared to the same period last year, noting that 4,218 people have been arrested for various crimes since the beginning of the year.

The Directorate stated that the number of crimes committed during January, February, March, and April this year amounted to 2152 crimes, compared to 3134 crimes during the same period last year.

Car theft crimes came first with 415 crimes during the first third of this year, a decline of 5.46 percent from the same period last year. The directorate recorded 49 murders, a decrease of 19.67 percent from last year. Theft crimes amounted to 1,367 crimes during the four months, compared to 2,218 crimes last year.

The Directorate confirmed that despite the difficult security conditions that Lebanon is going through, its personnel is fully prepared to carry out their security duties to ensure the protection of the Lebanese and residents on various Lebanese territories, in cooperation and coordination with the various military and security agencies. It called on citizens to show responsibility by cooperating with it in terms of reporting crimes.
