Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Monday that the Lebanese state has imposed full control over the country’s southern region for the first time since 1969.

The prime minister’s remarks mark a significant political and security development in Lebanon, where the south has long been affected by instability, armed presence, and weak state authority over several decades.

Mikati emphasized that restoring state control reflects the government’s commitment to sovereignty, security, and the rule of law across all Lebanese territories. He added that the move aims to strengthen national institutions and ensure stability along Lebanon’s southern borders.

The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed international focus on security arrangements in southern Lebanon, an area historically shaped by conflict and external interventions.
