Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stated on Monday that the framework agreement signed between his country and Israel under United States sponsorship "will not pass and will not be implemented," asserting that it fails to safeguard Lebanon's rights.
In a statement issued by the Amal Movement, which he leads, Berri declared: "This agreement will not pass and will not be executed in its current form," describing it as an agreement of "dictates, rather than one that protects Lebanon's rights."
He further added that the most dangerous aspect of the agreement is that it could open the door to internal strife and division among Lebanese citizens, ultimately serving the interests of the Israeli occupation.
Moreover, Berri noted that opposition to this agreement will be carried out within constitutional and national frameworks, explaining that ministers from the Amal Movement will participate in cabinet sessions where the agreement is discussed to voice their stance from within state institutions.
The framework agreement specifically stipulates the disarmament of Hezbollah, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from territories they breached in southern Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese Army starting within two "pilot" zones.
