The Lebanese lira hit a record low on Thursday at 21,150 to the U.S. dollar, after Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri abandoned an attempt to form a new government.
Stock exchange traders said they sold the dollar for 20,200 liras and bought it for 20,100 from LL19,600-19,500 on Wednesday, and LL1965 earlier today.
On Thursday, Hariri said he decided to step down after President Michel Aoun rejected his new cabinet line-up of 24 non-partisan specialists to save the crisis-stricken country.
