The Lebanese Army and the Republican Guard stepped up their presence, earlier today, in the vicinity of the Republican Palace in Baabda, after calls for demonstrations on the roads leading to the Presidential Palace.

On Tuesday, Protesters in Lebanon blocked roads with burning tires in different parts of the country, including Beirut, following a broadcast interview with President Michel Aoun, National news Agency (NNA) reported.

During the interview, Aoun asked the demonstrators to return to their homes and said that their demands had been heard, warning of a "catastrophe" if they remained at the streets.

Noteworthy, a state of unrest and chaos prevails in Lebanon as the demonstrators took to the streets following a televised speech by President Aoun on Tuesday evening, as they considered that the speech of the President does not meet their aspirations and demands since the outbreak of protests on October 17.

Last month, hundreds of thousands of protesters took to streets of Beirut, calling on the government to quit.

The protests erupted over the government’s plan to impose new taxes amid a severe economic crisis.

The protests are seen as the biggest since the garbage crisis sparked in 2015.

On the other hand, the Saudi Embassy in Lebanon announced the success of the first phase of the crisis and emergency management plan aimed at evacuating Saudi citizens and securing their arrival at Rafic Hariri International Airport. The embassy thanked the Lebanese army and internal security forces, and expressed hope that peace and stability would prevail in Lebanon.
