Eng. Khaled Abdel Aziz, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in the Arab Republic of Egypt, received Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector at the League of Arab States, at the Council’s headquarters on 5 February.
As the Arab Republic of Egypt holds the position of Vice-Chairman of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, the meeting provided an opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in the media sector.
Discussions focused particularly on the follow-up mechanisms for implementing the recently adopted resolutions of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, as well as Egypt’s valuable contributions to upcoming meetings, including preparations for the ministerial session scheduled for the second quarter of 2025 in the Republic of Iraq.
The head of the Media and Communication Sector expressed his appreciation for the pivotal role played by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in advancing the directives of the Council of Arab Information Ministers aimed at developing Arab media, enhancing the professional competencies of Arab media professionals, and reinforcing an open, cooperative approach within the sector.
This approach fosters collaboration with government media bodies in member states, as well as with organisations and unions operating under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, to establish a media landscape that is more attuned to the pressing concerns of the Arab world.
He further emphasised that these efforts align with the objectives of the Arab Media Action Plan, which places the Palestinian cause at its core, alongside key programmes and strategies dedicated to promoting sustainable development across the Arab region.
