The League of Arab States participated, with a delegation headed by Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General, in the Third International Conference on Sudan, hosted by Berlin on 15 April, marking three years since the outbreak of the war in Sudan.

In press remarks on the sidelines of the conference, Ambassador Zaki stated that the League’s participation comes within the framework of its continued political support for Sudan, in accordance with the resolutions adopted by the Council of the League at its various levels.

Ambassador Zaki stated that, in his address on behalf of the League, he presented five key practical conclusions derived from the League’s consultations with Sudanese civil forces and coalitions: the primacy of Sudanese ownership of the political process; the necessity of an inclusive political dialogue; the need to intensify the preparatory phase; the importance of avoiding parallel political tracks and adopting a unified consultation roadmap; and, finally, achieving integration between the political process and the ceasefire track.

He also stressed the importance of continued coordination among all parties engaged in advancing peace in Sudan, whether states or regional and international organisations. In addition, he highlighted the role of the Quint Mechanism—comprising the League of Arab States, the African Union, the United Nations, the European Union, and IGAD—in coordinating and streamlining international initiatives aimed at restoring stability in Sudan and bringing the ongoing war to an end.
