French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said, on Friday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to remove Ukraine from the map.

“This is total war,” Le Drian said, expressing his fears for President Volodymyr Zelenskyj’s safety.

In addition, the minister affirmed that France is also concerned about a possible Russian military offensive against Moldova and Georgia.

On her part, Defense Minister Florence Parly confirmed that France had provided military aid to Ukraine.

“We have delivered military equipment to Ukraine,” she told the French broadcaster RTL.

In a televised address to the nation Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Russia's attack is a turning point in European history and as a result there will be profound consequences for our continent and changes in our lives.

Furthermore, Macron said that they will reply calmly and in a determined and united manner, pointing out that sanctions will be proportionate to Russia's military operations, targeting its economy and its energy sector.
