On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov wished Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas success in forming a unified Palestinian government of technocrats.
Lavrov said, in statements reported by the Russian TASS news agency: “We wish the Palestinians and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas success in forming a new government, and we hope that the new government will be able to overcome differences and include people who express the interests of the entire Palestinian people with all their orientations.”
He also expressed his hope that Abbas's decision would contribute to giving impetus to the internal political process and strengthening the Palestinian internal dialogue.
It is noteworthy that on February 26, Abbas accepted the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh, and Palestinian media reported that Shtayyeh and his government will continue to work until a new government is formed.
