Russian Foreign Minister (FM) Sergey Lavrov emphasized on Tuesday the necessity of holding direct dialogue between Pakistan and India to foster mutual trust between the two nations.
According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lavrov discussed bilateral cooperation and regional and international security issues during his meeting with Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan.
The talks were reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
Both sides agreed on the importance of uniting efforts to combat terrorism within international frameworks, particularly under the auspices of the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated since the terrorist attack on April 22 in the tourist town of Pahalgam, located in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir, which left 26 people dead.
However, on May 10, both countries agreed to a ceasefire and began considering a reduction in troop presence along their shared borders.
