Latvia and Ukraine plan to establish a joint drone manufacturing facility near Latvia's borders with Russia and Belarus, according to Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kolbergs.
The project forms part of expanding defense cooperation between the two countries and aims to strengthen regional security and military-industrial capabilities.
Kolbergs also said Latvia intends to deploy interceptor drones to counter unmanned aircraft crossing its borders with Russia and Belarus, describing the approach as a more cost-effective alternative to scrambling military aircraft.
The announcement comes after repeated incidents since March involving Ukrainian drones entering the airspace of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, prompting warnings from Moscow.
The Baltic states have increasingly focused on drone technology amid heightened tensions along NATO's eastern flank.
