Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture announced that the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine Authority has received praise from El Salvador and Latin American countries for the quality of Egyptian agricultural exports of citrus crops, due to their compliance with plant health specifications.
The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that despite all global challenges, Egypt's citrus exports—including oranges, lemons, tangerines, grapefruit, and others—rank first globally. This has positioned Egypt as the world's leading citrus exporter for several years, surpassing the world's largest citrus producers with quantities exceeding 2.4 million tons and revenues exceeding $1.1 billion by 2024.
He pointed to the efforts being made to open new markets for Egyptian agricultural products, including opening the Brazilian market to Egyptian citrus exports, which amounted to 28,171 tons this season, in addition to opening the Brazilian market to Egyptian potatoes and strawberry seedlings.
Negotiations are currently underway with the Brazilian side to open the market to Egyptian exports of onions, pomegranates, and fresh dates.
Moreover, Argentina has also imported an estimated 3,955 tons of citrus fruits this season. El Salvador's market has also been opened to Egyptian orange exports, which have reached 196 tons so far, with additional shipments currently underway.
Also, the Costa Rican market now open to Egyptian citrus and onion exports, 773 tons of citrus fruits have been exported to Costa Rica this season. With the start of the onion export season, a good amount of Egyptian onion exports to Costa Rica and other countries is expected to be sold out.
