The Traitor (Italian: Il traditore) is an internationally co-produced biographical crime drama movie that was produced in 2019. It was based on the life of Tommaso Buscetta, the first Sicilian Mafia boss.

The movie competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, as well as represented Italy at the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

It follows Buscetta, the man who brought down the Cosa Nostra. In the 80s, he escapes to Brazil after war rages between Sicilian mafia bosses over the heroin trade. He watched his sons and brother get killed. Buscetta, arrested and extradited to Italy, makes a decision that changes everything as he goes against his vow to the Cosa Nostra throughout meeting Judge Giovanni Falcone.

The Traitor scored 80% from Rotten Tomatoes, 7.1/10 from IMDb, and 63% from Metacritic, while 89% of Google users liked it.

One of the most trusted measurements of quality for Movies & TV, Rotten Tomatoes’s critical consensus reads, “While it doesn't probe particularly far below the surface of its central character, The Traitor tells its fact-based story with enough energy to entertain.”.
