On Thursday, Ethel Kennedy, human rights advocate and the widow of the late US senator Robert F. Kennedy, passed away at the age of 96.
Her grandson Joseph Kennedy III announced in a social media, posting: "It is with our hearts full of love that we announce the passing of our amazing grandmother, Ethel Kennedy. She died this morning from complications related to a stroke suffered last week."

She also concentrated on taking care of their 11 children, alongside her activities in human rights.
In addition, she faced several family tragedies as her parents were killed in a plane crash in 1955, and she lost a brother in a 1966 plane crash.
Her son David died of a drug overdose in 1984, and her son Michael was killed in a skiing accident in 1997.
Her granddaughter Saoirse died after a drug overdose in 2019.
She was honored the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the former US President Barack Obama in 2014.
