Tunisian media shed light on a leaked phone call between late Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and his attorney Mounir bin Salha, according to Sputnik news agency.

In a record broadcast by "Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath" TV channel, Ben Ali affirmed that he “did not harm anyone during his 23-year reign and that he did not issue any directives to torture citizens or kill politicians.”

Moreover, he stressed that he only approved the execution of one criminal who killed 14 children, known as "the Butcher of Nabeul", adding that those who accused him of torture had intentionally burned citizens, referring to the events of Bab Souika.

The late Tunisian president pointed out that he "did not kill any citizen during the years of his rule, rather, he was keen to provide secret protection for some opponents."

It is worth mentioning that Ben Ali passed away in Saudi Arabia at the age of 85 after a struggle with illness.

He assumed the presidency in Tunisia for 23 years following a coup against the rule of Habib Bourguiba in 1987.
