A landslide in southwest China's Chongqing municipality trapped an unknown number of people after burying several residential buildings, state media reported on Friday.
China Central Television (CCTV) said at least eight people had been rescued from the debris, while search and rescue operations remain underway.
The landslide struck at around 9:08 a.m. local time in Pengshui County, with television footage showing part of a mountainside collapsing onto a residential area.
Emergency crews were seen searching through the rubble as authorities continued efforts to locate those still trapped. Pengshui County is located in southeastern Chongqing, near the provinces of Hubei and Guizhou.
