On the occasion of the launch of the Global Humanitarian Overview 2025 (GHO), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait in partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), will host an event on 4 December 2024.
The GHO is the annual overview of humanitarian trends and needs worldwide, and the interagency plans to respond to the crises. The GHO includes a summary of the funding necessary to implement the plans next year.
The event in the State of Kuwait, organized under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, will take place from 09:00 to 10:30 Kuwait time (GMT +3) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will be livestreamed on UN WebTV.
The launch event in Kuwait is one of three during the day - the other two taking place in Geneva and Nairobi.
H.E. Sheikh Jarrah Jaber AlAhmad AlSabah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, and Ms. Joyce Msuya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator will provide remarks in event.
A high-level panel will discuss the critical role of humanitarian diplomacy in delivering effective and coordinated assistance. Panelists will also highlight the urgent need for greater funding to bridge the growing gap in humanitarian appeals, as well as the importance of principled action while navigating the evolving geopolitical landscape.
The panel includes speakers from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, German Federal Foreign Office, World Food Programme, and Amel Association International.
