Kuwait has expressed strong condemnation and disapproval of recent Israeli legislation that prohibits the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the occupied Palestinian territories.
This move is seen as a significant setback for the agency's ability to provide humanitarian support and services to vulnerable Palestinian refugees.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs labeled the legislation as part of a broader pattern of egregious violations by Israeli occupying forces against international law, humanitarian law, and UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2417.
This resolution condemns the use of starvation as a weapon in conflicts and the illegal obstruction of humanitarian aid, which denies civilians access to essential resources for their survival.
Kuwait was actively involved in promoting this resolution during its non-permanent membership in the Security Council from 2018 to 2019.
Kuwait reiterated its call for the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities under the UN Charter to maintain international peace and security.
The country urged the Council to act against the ongoing atrocities faced by the Palestinian people and to hold Israeli occupying forces accountable for their systematic crimes against defenseless civilians.
