The Kuwait Ministry of Interior has issued a decision banning the operation of fireworks unless prior security approvals are obtained from the relevant authorities, citing serious risks to public safety, Al-Rai media reports, according to Times Kuwait.
The ministry said the move follows investigations and inspections carried out on companies specializing in organizing and executing fireworks displays, particularly those contracted for year-end celebrations. These inspections revealed multiple violations, including failure to secure mandatory security approvals, unsuitable fireworks storage locations, and breaches of approved regulations governing the import and storage of fireworks.
The Interior Ministry stressed that importing, storing, or operating fireworks in violation of laws and regulations constitutes a criminal offense punishable by law. It warned that strict legal measures will be taken against all parties found to be involved, including companies and entities that fail to comply with security and safety requirements.
According to the ministry, the ban was imposed after serious violations were detected among some companies and organizers, reflecting a lack of adherence to established safety and security standards. The decision was described as a preventive measure aimed at protecting the lives and property of citizens and residents.
Reaffirming that public safety remains a top priority, the Interior Ministry urged full compliance with all issued instructions and decisions, and called for cooperation with security authorities to ensure a safe environment during the year-end holiday period.
Meanwhile, New Year’s Eve fireworks displays have been canceled at several locations across Kuwait. Kout Mall and Khairan Mall cited technical reasons for the cancellations, while Messilah Beach said its display was called off in line with security directives. Other planned New Year’s Eve activities will continue as scheduled, according to posts shared on Kuwait Times social media platforms.
