Kremlin confirmed on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Mariupol was "Sponatneous".

"It was all very spontaneous," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said of the Russian president's first visit to Mariupol. He stressed that "his movements around the city were not planned either."

It is worth mentioning that, Russian media reported on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had made a business trip to Mariupol, a Ukrainian city in the Donetsk region occupied by Moscow's forces since May last year.

The TASS news agency quoted the Kremlin as saying that Putin had flown to Mariupol by helicopter. Putin, driving a car, moved around several parts of the city, stopping and talking to residents.

According to media reports Putin also met with the top brass leading his military operation in Ukraine.

This is the first such visit made by the Russian president, who launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year.
