Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, Peskov told reporters, “The president has no such plans," adding that no decision has yet been made regarding who will represent Russia at the ceremony.
“I can't tell you that right now; the matter hasn't been decided yet. We will inform you once a decision is made,” Peskov stated.
The Vatican announced on Monday the death of Pope Francis following a long battle with illness.
In recent months, Pope Francis had suffered from respiratory issues that required him to remain under continuous medical supervision for over 35 days.
