Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted on Wednesday that Russia's confrontation with the West would likely last a long time.

"If we talk about the war in a broad sense: the confrontation with Western countries, hybrid war... this will go on for a long time," Peskov said.

The official believed that Russians had rallied around President Vladimir Putin in an "unprecedented" way and that most want to see his goals in Ukraine achieved.

"We see an absolutely unprecedented consolidation of Russian society around the president, around the supreme commander-in-chief and the policy that he is pursuing," he noted.

The spokesman added: "And we see an absolutely dominant conviction in our society that all the goals of the special military operation should be and will be achieved."

In previous remarks, Putin indicated that China's peace plan for Ukraine could be used as a basis to end the war.

The Russian leader mentioned: "Many provisions of the Chinese peace plan can be taken as the basis for settling of the conflict in Ukraine, whenever the West and Kyiv are ready for it."

However, the president underlined that Moscow had yet to see such "readiness" from the other side.
