The Korean Halal Food Festival in Cairo kicked off Monday morning, with the participation of Egyptian companies.
The festival kicked off in the presence of South Korean Ambassador in Cairo, Hong Jin-Wook, and engineer Ashraf Afifi, Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality.
Hong Jin-Wook expressed his gratitude for the participation of Egyptian and Korean companies in the festival.
He noted the role the Korean Cultural Center played in presenting part of the halal food industry in accordance with Islamic law in Korea.
Hong Jin-Wook added that Korean music and food is becoming increasingly popular in Egypt and the region.
“There are many Egyptians who love Korean food, but due to the difficulty in obtaining halal Korean ingredients from nearby stores, it was difficult to make this food at home,” he noted.
The ambassador stated that Korean halal products were a result of a survey conducted by the Korean Culture Center, which showed that if food ingredients were available in Egypt and halal made, it will be easy for thousands of Egyptian families to taste the Korean food.
He underlined on subscribing to the embassy's YouTube page to be able to watch the festival, which lasts for two weeks.
The ambassador noted that the bilateral cultural exchange will generate a great desire to taste Korean food in Egypt as well as Egyptian food in Korea.
Most of the festival activities will take place online due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
