The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt hosted a K-Food Event at the Korean Ambassador's residence on 6th May, 2026, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties through a strategic blend of culinary culture and trade.
The event was co-hosted by the Korea-Africa Foundation and the Korea Food Industries Association, and the gathering featured representatives from 16 leading Korean food companies. The event included a Business Networking and Matchmaking session, followed by a “K-Food Night” tasting experience.
* Participating Korean Companies: Damwoo, Damtuh, Daesang, Sempio, Sweetdeo, Nokchawon, Dairyzen, Orion, Nutrione, Paris Croissant, Young Poong, PNFood System, Nongshim, CM F&B
The morning session focused on Business Networking and Matchmaking, connecting Korean F&B brands directly with Egyptian buyers and industry leaders. More than 80 representatives from 51 organizations participated, including local supermarket chains, food manufacturers, dining franchises, logistics distributors, and business consultants. The session proved productive, facilitating more than 160 meetings and a consultation volume of $8.5 million (by Korea Food Industries Association). By engaging directly with local stakeholders, Korean companies gained first-hand market insights essential for navigating local markets and securing collaboration opportunities as well as future export contracts.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the K-Food Night event under the theme “Eat Korea, Enjoy the Vibes.” The residence was transformed with Korean food tasting booths and interactive workshops where guests learned how to make traditional Korean dishes, such as Bibimbap (mixed rice) and Hwachae (traditional fruit punch), under the guidance of Egyptian chefs. The evening drew more than 200 attendees, including officials from the Ministry of Investment, representatives of local F&B companies, influencers and Korean culture enthusiasts.
Kim Young-chae, Chairman of the Korea-Africa Foundation, emphasized Egypt’s role not only as a valued partner for Korea, but also a place where mutually beneficial cooperation can truly flourish. He hoped that the event could spark new connections between consumers, businesses, and partners from both nations, leading to practical and lasting relationship.
Park Jin-sun, Chairman of the Korea Food Industries Association and CEO of Sempio Foods, described the event as a precious opportunity for the local community to experience the diversity of Korean cuisine. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to expanding cooperation between the Korean and Egyptian F&B sectors.
During the event, the Good-mori Ensemble, a modern Korean traditional music group, performed a variety of traditional music, including Arirang medleys. The performance drew rousing applause and highlighted the broader appeal of Korean culture.
The event was designed as a comprehensive platform where "K-Initiatives," – every aspects of Korean culture intertwining food, music, and tradition – could serve as a catalyst for trade and investment. By building robust networks with local F&B officials, the event is expected to serve as a vital stepping stone for introducing Korean foods into the local community. Furthermore, the enthusiastic response from local consumers helped participating companies identify the high growth potential of the region, laying the groundwork for long-term partnership between Korea and Egypt.
Following the signing of a joint statement in January this year to promote a Korea-Egypt Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the Embassy plans to continue its coordination with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to streamline export processes while hosting various cultural events tailored to local preferences.
