The Korean Ambassador, Mr. Kim Yonghyon, paid a courtesy call on Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark on Monday, 11 December 2023, and exchanged views on ways to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between peoples of Korea and Egypt.
Ambassador Kim paid his highest respect to the Pope for his leadership and the contribution of the Egyptian Coptic Church in building social cohesion in Egypt and for upholding the principles of peace, tolerance and embracement in the region.
Ambassador Kim said that the two countries are enjoying the best-ever bilateral relations achieved through the collective efforts by people and civic society including religious groups as well as the government.
Pope Tawadros II praised the excellent Korean-Egyptian relations which expanded over decades and conveyed his best wishes for Ambassador Kim's endeavor to promote friendship and cooperation between the two peoples. He reiterated the importance of peaceful coexistence among faiths that the Coptic Church champions.
Pope Tawadros II and Ambassador Kim shared the view that the two countries need to work more vigorously together for the strengthening of exchanges and cooperation in such fields as education and public health and for further engagement in improving ordinary people's decent livelihood.
