KOICA, Egypt sign an agreement to establish a strategic partnership on Triangular Cooperation
The sides will use their technical knowledge, and best practices to jointly implement cooperation activities to promote the socio-economic development of beneficiary countries in Africa and the region.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), South Korea’s official development aid Agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) to implement joint actions and initiatives on development cooperation in third countries for poverty eradication and sustainable development.
KOICA’s President, Mr. Wonsam Chang signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ambassador Khaled Abd El Rahman, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Korea on behalf of the EAPD on Wednesday, 5 June in Korea. The signing took place during the Korea-Africa Future Partnership Conference hosted by KOICA, as an official side event of the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit that was held on the 4th and 5th of June in Korea.
Under this MOU, the two agencies will jointly implement triangular cooperation activities to promote the socio-economic development of beneficiary countries in Africa. The triangular cooperation will focus on building the capacities of African countries' officials in various fields, such as agriculture, irrigation, and healthcare, to help them effectively address development challenges through leveraging the technical knowledge, best practices, and resources of both Egypt and Korea to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals
The MOU will be in effect for five years, commencing from the date of signing.
KOICA President Mr. Wonsam Chang stated that KOICA has been actively promoting triangular cooperation in the development sector, and we anticipate that our partnership with the EAPD will contribute to enhancing South-South cooperation outcomes in the region.
For his part, the Egyptian Ambassador to Korea, H.E. Mr. Khaled Hassan Abdelrahman, emphasized, Egypt has high priority and technical expertise in areas of agriculture, ICT, and health, and KOICA will be a key partner in Egypt's efforts to expand regional cooperation in Africa."
KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) is a Korean government agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to implementing grant aid programs aiming to combat poverty and support sustainable socio-economic growth in developing countries around the world. KOICA Egypt Office, established in 1998, provides technical education for youths in Egypt, supports the digitalization of government services and systems, and carries out programs to address gender-based violence, strengthen women`s empowerment, and support vulnerable groups.
